PHILTOP Power Steering Pump for 1998-2000 Lexus LS400 Base Model - Replacement for OEM 21-5143 & 4432050030 - High Performance Automotive Power Assist Pump for Smooth Steering & Driving Comfort

This was my first power steering pump replacement of all the mechanical repairs I have made over the years. I went to the local auto parts store and rented a power steering pump gear puller / installer tool. Then watched a YouTube video for some direction on how to proceed. The gear I was replacing was completely out, not only was it extremely noisy but it did not function at all. After loosing the belt, I used the puller to removed the gear, used a 5/8" wrench to removed the high pressure line, and a pair of pliers to take off the low pressure return line. Then the only thing left was to remove the 3 - 13mm bolts and the pump was out. Hardest part of the removal was dealing with pesky little clamp on the return line, needless to say I replaced the clamp with a standard one. Lastly, I had to removed the reservoir. Be careful I actually broke the small ear off that had a wire loom grommet at the bottom. Luckily it did not affect the reservoir. The reservoir is discontinued or so I hear (silly since it fits 11 other GM vehicles.)After the pump was removed,I had to transfer the reservoir to the new pump. So after a proper cleaning and gently popping the clips off, I removed the reservoir. The O-Ring was flattened and shot, soI found some O-Rings and replaced the one on the high pressure hose and on the reservoir. Reinstalled the reservoir and clips, then I decided to reinstall the pulley before putting the new pump back on the Hummer. The 13mm bolts will go through openings on the pulley. I put some grease on the new shaft, and in the hole of the pulley, then used the tool pushed the pulley onto the new pump. Before I started reinstallation of the mounting bolts, I attached the low pressure hose with a new clamp, obviously it is flexible. I wanted to reattached the high pressure hose as well, but it isn't as flexible with metal fittings, so I saved it till last.I was able to get all the bolts to go through the holes and tighten up with no worries. I was able to get the high pressure hose started and tightened with a shorty wrench. Filled the reservoir with Lucas power steering fluid and jacked the front wheels up. I had my wife listen for bubbles come out as I turned the wheel back and forth. After about twenty turns it was complete, cap on, jacks down and ready for testing.First thing I noticed was how much smoother the vehicles was idling. I don't believe it had done that for the entire time we owned the vehicle. Secondly it steered so easy, it could be turned with no effort and a pinky finger. My wife believes the car has a little more power now, it is possible the old pump had been dragging for so long that it felt that way.I know this was a long review with a play by play of how I completed the repair. I wanted to highlight the simplicity of the repair, especially for a first time attempt at this repair. The puller / installer tool is a must. The only thing that would have made this product better other than a new reservoir would have been the addition of 2 O-Rings. I think companies fail to realize that consumers are willing to pay a little more to not have the aggravation of finding things like exact size O-Rings or in my case, I would have happily paid a lot more to have a new reservoir, or perhaps a pulley. Regardless this pump was roughly half the cost of a similar one at my local auto parts store. Best of luck on your repairs.
